The Art Blog

Fifty-two paintings. Every week in 2015 Terry Martin is painting a new piece of work and posting it here with comments on inspirations, reasons, difficulties, etc. Later in the year Terry will be exhibiting his work at a location to be confirmed nearer the time. That is, of course, if they're not all sold before then! If you are interested in buying any of the work here please get in touch with Terry via the Contact Lucifal link.

Week 12/13/14

"Preparing for and appearing at Sci-Fi Weekender Week 12, publishing Fosdyke Newsletter Week 13, a week's holiday in Wales (daughter and grandchildren housesitting and looking after the chickens), so will be playing catch-up big time Week 15. So, as I've not added anything for a while here's as far as I've got with Week 8 (my take on [pretty much a copy!] and celebration) of Leonardo M Giron's amazing artwork in Dead Girls - The Graphic Novel. Just rough at the moment (drawing's the easy bit). The hard work comes next."

"Primavera" - work in progress (Week 8)

Acrylics on canvas, 600 mm x 800 mm (23½" x 31½")

Week 11

"Pod"

Acrylics on canvas, 30.5 mm x 30.5 mm (12" x 12")

£25 excluding shipping

"This week's painting plus the last three weeks as a set. Well, with the backgrounds dictating the subject matter there always seemed a chance that the idea just wouldn't work - where's the contrast? Hopefully I've succeeded. Let me know what you think. And, yes, everyone who said the link was traffic lights were spot on."

Week 10

"Core!"

Acrylics on canvas, 30.5 mm x 30.5 mm (12" x 12")

£25 excluding shipping

"But it's not Week 10 yet! True. But like I said, I've a detailed painting to work on and I need to get ahead to give me some leeway. Can anyone see the final link yet? A third painting to come in the series ..."

Week 9

"Wait"

Acrylics on canvas, 30.5 mm x 30.5 mm (12" x 12")

£25 excluding shipping

"What's happened to Week 8? Well, it's one of those detailed ones again and I'm still working on it. I don't want to fall behind so there will be three small ones to give me a boost. Keep an eye on them, there may be a theme. This one is not called Wheat for a reason, and that reason you will eventually discover."

Week 8
Part 1

"Started painting late in the week. Mainly due to indecision. What could my subject be? Decided on a Richard-Calder Dead Girls tribute. ie a painting of Leonardo M Giron's depiction of Primavera just after she's pushed Iggy out of the whole in the wall she's just blown in a tower block (about nine flours up). Last week's detail has pushed me back into old habits which I can't afford to have if I'm going to keep the schedule going. So, what to do? I'll be digging out some smaller canvases in the forthcoming weeks!"

Week 7
Part 3

"Glad"

Acrylics on canvas, 495 mm x 1000 mm (19½" x 39⅜")

£150 excluding shipping

"There comes a time in any creative work when you realise it's never going to be perfect and that it's time to move on else you'll spend your life tweeking. So that time, thankfully, has come. Remind me to stay clear of flowers in the future!"

Week 7
Part 2

"Producing the village newsletter this week so time was at a premium. I'll be working flat out today (Friday, 20 February) to finish this epic (at least to me) piece. I hope you'll think it's worth the wait. Every painting you produce you learn (or relearn) something. Keep your palette simple. Don't be afraid to exagerate shadow. My two tips for this week."

Week 7
Part 1

"Not quite ready with this one. The above is an unfinished portion. A teaser, if you like. Gone back to old habits with detail which I find a challenge with acrylics. They dry too quick for my natutal technique. However, it's coming along. Please be patient!"

Week 6

"ii"

Acrylics on canvas, 1000 mm x 800 mm (39⅜" x 31½")

£75 excluding shipping

"This was inspired by a black and white photograph. I wanted to give it a modern art feel but with a hint of traditionalism (whatever that might be). Only you can tell if I succeeded."

Week 5

"Ruined"

Acrylics on canvas, 560 mm x 455 mm (22" x 18")

£25 excluding shipping

"A touch of gothic for this week. No reason."

Week 4

"Oh!"

Acrylics on canvas, 455 mm x 560 mm (18" x 22")

£30 excluding shipping

"Once upon a time I'd have called this unfinished. I'd spends weeks in meticulous detail (I could do that with oils). ) But these days I kinda like the roughness and urgency of acrylics (no sketching, just straight in with the paint). This is based on a picture of my granddaughter, Freya (she's three now)."

Week 3

"Desire"

Acrylics on canvas, 300 mm x 1000 mm (40" x 12")

£30 excluding shipping

"I thought I'd take a worm's eye view of a flower looking at the bird's eye viewer. There might be a hint of feathers in the petals. (And using the new £24 easel - bargain)."

Week 2

"Flybutter"

Acrylics on canvas, 600 mm x 600 mm (24" x 24")

£35 excluding shipping

"This one is a little early in the week as it was started three years ago, so not so much to do. I produced another painting of a similar nature as a 60th birthday present for a sister-in-law."

Week 1

"CU"

Acrylics on canvas, 500 mm x 1000 mm (19¾" x 39")

£45 excluding shipping

"I had used the inspiation of a Tom Fedro painting for a canvas in my living room at the back end of 2014. I thought I would see how a simplified style along the same lines might work."
